If your Condor flight arrived more than 3 hours late, you may be entitled to compensation of up to €600 under EU Regulation EC 261/2004 — regardless of how much you paid for your ticket. Condor is Germany's largest leisure airline, with its main hub at Frankfurt (FRA), flying millions of holidaymakers each year to destinations across the globe.

Condor specialises in long-haul routes to the Caribbean, Thailand, the Maldives, and the USA. A delay on these routes can quickly translate into a compensation claim of €600 per passenger. For a family of four, that amounts to €2,400 — often more than the cost of the flights themselves.

When are you entitled to Condor compensation?

EC 261/2004 applies when all of the following conditions are met:

Flight conditions:

  • Your flight arrived at its destination 3 hours or more late (measured from the moment the aircraft doors open, not departure time)
  • The flight departed from an EU airport — all Condor departures from Frankfurt, Munich, Düsseldorf, etc. are covered
  • Or the flight was operated by Condor (EU-registered) arriving into the EU

Passenger conditions:

  • You had a confirmed booking
  • You checked in on time
  • You were not travelling on a free or non-publicly available discounted fare

Package holidays — who is liable? If you booked a package holiday through TUI, FTI, DERTOUR, or another tour operator, you may wonder whether the tour operator or the airline is responsible. The answer is clear: for EC 261/2004 compensation, the operating airline is always responsible — in this case, Condor. Regardless of who sold you the ticket. Hotel or transfer issues go to the tour operator; flight compensation goes to Condor.

Condor compensation amounts

Compensation is based on flight distance, not ticket price:

Flight distance Compensation
Up to 1,500 km €250
1,500–3,500 km €400
Over 3,500 km €600

Examples of typical Condor routes:

  • Frankfurt – Palma de Mallorca (~1,370 km) → €250 per passenger
  • Frankfurt – Antalya (~2,370 km) → €400 per passenger
  • Frankfurt – Hurghada (~3,600 km) → €600 per passenger
  • Frankfurt – Cancún (~8,790 km) → €600 per passenger
  • Frankfurt – Phuket (~9,150 km) → €600 per passenger
  • Munich – Maldives (Malé) (~8,000 km) → €600 per passenger

Because Condor focuses heavily on long-haul routes, a large proportion of flights fall into the €600 category. Check the exact amount for your route with our compensation calculator.

How to claim Condor compensation — step by step

Step 1: Check your eligibility

Confirm the following:

  • Did your flight arrive 3+ hours late at the destination?
  • Was the cause not "extraordinary circumstances" (no extreme weather, no ATC strike)?
  • Did the flight depart from the EU, or was it operated by Condor?

Step 2: Gather your documents

Prepare:

  • Booking reference (PNR)
  • Flight number (e.g. DE 2048)
  • Boarding pass or booking confirmation
  • Proof of actual arrival time (Flightradar24, FlightAware)
  • Bank account details (IBAN)
  • For package holidays: tour operator booking confirmation as additional evidence

Step 3: Submit your claim to Condor

Go to condor.com → Service → Passenger rights → Compensation claim. Alternatively, write to Condor's customer service by post. Save the confirmation number.

Step 4: Wait for a response

Expect a response within 4–8 weeks. For long-haul cases or during peak season, it may take longer. No response after 8 weeks? Escalate.

Common excuses Condor uses to refuse claims

1. "Extraordinary circumstances" Condor frequently cites weather conditions at the destination (tropical storms, sandstorms in Egypt) or air traffic control restrictions. Check: was the weather really that extreme? Delays from earlier rotations are often mislabelled as weather delays.

2. "Unforeseeable technical fault" Condor renewed its fleet in 2024 with new A330neo aircraft. But even with new planes, routine technical problems are not extraordinary circumstances (CJEU ruling Wallentin-Hermann, 2008).

3. Redirecting to the tour operator For package holidays, Condor often tells passengers to contact their tour operator. Don't be deterred: EC 261/2004 compensation is always directed at the operating airline — Condor.

4. Delay calculation Condor may measure the delay from departure time. The correct measurement is from the moment the doors open at the destination (CJEU Germanwings ruling, 2014).

What if Condor offers vouchers instead of money?

Condor sometimes offers travel vouchers as an alternative to cash. What you should know:

  • You are not obligated to accept a voucher
  • EC 261/2004 guarantees your right to cash payment
  • Vouchers often come with restrictions (validity period, redemption conditions)
  • Accepting a voucher may waive your right to further claims

State clearly in writing: "I decline the voucher and demand cash compensation under EU Regulation 261/2004."

What to do if Condor rejects your claim

1. söp (German arbitration board) Condor participates in the söp. Free mediation, typically resolved within 2–4 months.

2. National enforcement body In Germany, the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt (LBA) handles complaints. Free to file; processing takes 6–18 months.

3. AirHelp The world's leading flight compensation company with over 10 million passengers helped. AirHelp handles your entire case — claim, negotiation, and court proceedings if necessary. Only 35% commission on success. For Condor long-haul cases (€600 tier), the professional service is particularly worthwhile.

4. Small claims court File in your local court. For amounts under €5,000, no lawyer is required in Germany.

FAQ: Condor flight delay compensation

Does Condor pay compensation voluntarily? Condor pays in clear-cut cases but frequently rejects claims citing extraordinary circumstances, especially weather-related delays on long-haul routes. Many passengers only receive their compensation after escalating.

I booked through a tour operator — can I claim from Condor? Yes, absolutely. For EC 261/2004 claims, the operating airline is always responsible — Condor. The tour operator handles travel defects (hotel, transfers, programme changes), not flight compensation.

My Condor long-haul flight was 4 hours late — how much do I get? For flights over 3,500 km, you're entitled to €600. Condor may reduce this by 50% to €300 if they offered alternative transport and you arrived within 4 hours of the original time.

Does Condor's new fleet reduce their liability? No. Even new A330neo aircraft can have technical problems. Fleet renewal does not exempt Condor from its obligations under EC 261/2004.

How far back can I claim compensation from Condor? In Germany, the limitation period is 3 years from the flight date. In other EU countries, it ranges from 2 to 6 years.
